Ahmet Kostarika
Ahmet Kostarika (born Ahmet Turgutlu, 1927–1994) was a prolific Turkish character actor and an indispensable face of Yeşilçam’s golden era, appearing in over 300 films across four decades. Born in Sarıyer, Istanbul, to a family originally hailing from Kastamonu, he gained his legendary moniker from the popular local tavern he ran in his youth, Kostarika Meyhanesi, which served as a bustling hub for film industry veterans. Making his screen debut in Ömer Lütfi Akad’s 1952 crime drama İpsala Cinayeti, Turgutlu was almost exclusively credited as "Ahmet Kostarika" throughout his career, becoming the ultimate screen portrayal of working-class neighborhood figures—from beloved butchers and grocers to strict local cops. Renowned for his effortless screen presence and seamless blend of subtle comedy and dramatic weight, he collaborated extensively with Yeşilçam legend Kemal Sunal in nearly 30 iconic comedies, including Üç Kağıtçı (1981) and Atla Gel Şaban (1984), while also featuring in celebrated Turkish classics such as Metin Erksan's Suçlular Aramızda (1964) and Ertem Eğilmez's Canım Kardeşim (1973).
